James Davis, chief executive officer of upad.co.uk, remarked after the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) revealed that there has been an increase in the amount of reluctant property tenants.
He stated: "It will be a good year for landlords. There is plenty of opportunity for purchasing property [and] there are more and more tenants coming into the market."
It could be said that the relative lack of job security has encouraged many people to seek rental accommodation, which may give property investors cause for optimism.
The ARLA study of its members showed that 41 per cent of respondents claimed there were more tenants than properties during the fourth quarter of 2009.
In addition, it found that 51 per cent of landlords believe consumers are being forced to rent.
